The New Energy Frontier
Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions (DESS) was the product of the merger of REC Solar, Duke Energy Renewables, and Duke Energy One. Unlike the rest of Duke Energy, DESS operated in the commercial energy space.
The New Energy Frontier was envisioned as a half-day of networking and workshops designed to help organizations build road maps to operate more reliably, economically, and sustainably.
As as Duke Energy company, we were limited to the parent company palette and typeface. All naming and design needed to pass through the utility parent company legal and desi’gn teams, both unfamiliar with the commercial energy space.
The inspiration for the imagery came from one of our first DESS promotional videos, “the cowboy” video: a rancher riding through fields with wind turbines.
I expanded on my original artwork with portraits that highlighted the diversity of the original Western cowboys.
All assets were created to be delivered to an events company who would handle the ordering of miscellaneous collateral for each stop of the tour. Excerpts from the style guide can be found below.
