Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions (DESS) was the product of the merger of REC Solar, Duke Energy Renewables, and Duke Energy One. Unlike the rest of Duke Energy, DESS operated in the commercial energy space.
Goals
The New Energy Frontier was envisioned as a half-day of networking and workshops designed to help organizations build road maps to operate more reliably, economically, and sustainably.
Challenges
As as Duke Energy company, we were limited to the parent company palette and typeface. All naming and design needed to pass through the utility parent company legal and design teams, both unfamiliar with the commercial energy space.
Process
The inspiration for the imagery came from one of our first DESS promotional videos, “the cowboy” video: a rancher riding through fields with wind turbines. The DESS identity already included my original artwork, sketched illustrations, which we continued here. I wanted to highlight the diversity of the original Western cowboys with new portraits. All assets were created to be delivered to an events company who would handle the ordering of miscellaneous collateral for each stop of the tour.
